163 presidents of the judges join the revolt in the Judiciary against the salary law proposed by the Bolojan Government.
The presidents of the Courts in Romania have expressed their solidarity with the positions expressed by the president of the High Court of Cassation and Justice and the Superior Council of the Magistracy and draw attention to the consequences “catastrophic” of the salary bill, in the conditions publicly exposed by the interim labor minister.
“The texts of the project will cause anomalies translated into different classifications of people depending on the date of promotion or recruitment in public positions, so that situations will be reached in which, as a result of promotion in ranks or steps of seniority, salary rights will decrease. The level of the ranking coefficients proposed violates the constitutional principle of equality between powers, without taking into account the constitutional role of the judiciary. The only concern of the initiators was to increase officials’ salaries, although they call for moderation in spending public money”the presidents of the Courts show in a statement.
They say that the new salary law in its current form will cause a further decrease in this right, so that instead of 3 categories of pensioners in the magistracy there will be four, each of which will be maintained in pay, with differences of over 100% between them, under identical conditions of rank and seniority, which cannot be admitted.
“Outstanding salary rights are recognized by all professional categories (teachers, doctors, police officers, civil servants, etc.) and the amounts owed by the Romanian state are the consequence of the decision-makers’ inability to issue clear and unambiguous rules, but also of hard-to-understand individual initiatives through which preferential exceptions were made for certain professional categories, discriminating against others. The unilateral non-payment of these rights obtained by citizens according to the law determined the accumulation of sums that represent the expression of non-assurance of the executive power, and not the exercise by citizens of their rights recognized by law and international regulations”also announce the presidents of the Romanian Courts.
They reject the strategy assumed at the political level of continuous demonization of magistrates for “to cover the inability of the executive power to improve the standard of living of the society and draw public attention that they are no longer willing to accept irresponsible and humiliating attitudes, without foundation, from the other powers“, announce the heads of judges in Romania.
