Romania launches a strategy for combating cardio and cerebrovascular diseases. The announcement of the Minister of Health

The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, participated on Tuesday, September 30, in the launch of the National Strategy for Combating Cardio and Cerebrovascular Diseases. According to the minister the document “It marks a historical moment for the reform of the health system in Romania.”

Through this strategy, declares Rogobete, Romania “They join 5 other European countries that have already implemented similar strategies, building one of the most complex and modern approaches in the European Union, focused on prevention and early diagnosis.”

“Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases represents the first cause of death and disability in our country. Unfortunately, each of us knows someone touched by these conditions ”the minister said on Facebook.

He explained to be proposed by Romania concretely through this strategy:

• 10% increase in early diagnosis capacity;

• the establishment of 20 Community centers for the care of chronic patients;

• 20% increase in the number of ATI units and financing for complex procedures;

• Development of the network of cardiovascular and neurological rehabilitation centers (+15%);

• establishing the national register of patients with high vascular risk;

• implementation of mobile applications and online platforms dedicated to patients;

• Attracting specialized personnel: cardiologists, physiotherapists, psychologists and assistants with expertise.

Also the document is built in five strategic directions:

  1. Creating an integrated data system;
  2. Increasing access to diagnosis and treatment;
  3. Development of medical rehabilitation;
  4. Consolidation of the human resource;
  5. Stimulation of research and innovation.

“This strategy is an integral part of the national health strategy and represents a common effort of the professionals in the field, coordinated by the specialized cardiology and neurology commissions of the Ministry of Health.

Thank you to everyone and convey the most sincere appreciation to those who contributed to the elaboration of this essential document for the health of the Romanians: Prof. Dr. Dragoș Vinereanu, Prof. Dr. Dafin Mureșanu, CS II Dr. Ștefan Strilciuc, as well as to all the working groups of the Romanian Cardiology Society and the Neurology Society in Romania. This strategy puts the patient in the center of attention, where it has to be, and confirms that confidence is doing us good. Cardiovascular (BCV) and cerebrovascular diseases are the main causes of mortality and morbidity at the level of Romania, according to a report of the National Institute of Public Health.

Also, our country occupies one of the first places in Europe in terms of mortality due to preventable or treatable causes, with a significantly higher rate than the European average.

Ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular disease are well represented in both categories.

In the European Union (EU), BCV are responsible for 42.5% of the global number of deaths annually, respectively about 10,000 deaths/day (4).
