Romania, part of a European project for more transparent decisions on medicines

The Romanian Ministry of Health is the beneficiary of a European grant that will be carried out within the CAPRICORD project, starting from January, for a period of three years. The initiative brings together the authorities responsible for setting the prices and reimbursement of medicines in 12 European countries and aims to improve the decision-making process in the field of pharmaceutical policies.

According to the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, the project aims to increase transparency and provide a more solid basis for public decisions that have a direct impact on patients and health systems.

“Decisions related to medicines are never abstract. They are directly reflected in the lives of patients, in the expectations of families and in the responsibility of doctors who, day in and day out, have to make difficult decisions in real conditions of medical practice. Through CAPRICORD, the authorities responsible for setting the prices and reimbursement of medicines in 12 European countries are working together to improve the way these decisions are made”. the Minister of Health sent, in a post on Facebook.

Alexandru Rogobete emphasized that the project represents a European cooperation effort, aimed at bringing more clarity and coherence to the decision-making process, for the benefit of patients.

“It is an approach of European cooperation, increasing transparency and more solidly substantiating the public decision-making process. For the patient, this project means clearer rules, decisions that are easier to understand and solutions better adapted to medical realities. It means that the voice of the patient and the experience of health professionals matter more when deciding whether a drug is reimbursed, under what conditions and for whom”. the minister also specified.

At the same time, cooperation at European level gives national authorities common tools to manage uncertainties more effectively, especially in the case of innovative therapies and orphan drugs, where available data are limited and pressure on public budgets is high.

The Minister of Health also showed that an effective health system must be open, which explains the decisions taken and remains connected to the real needs of patients.

“For me, a good health system is one that explains, that makes informed decisions and that stays connected to people’s real needs. CAPRICORD also fits into this framework”Alexandru Rogobete also declared.
