The anti-caesarean section campaign that appeared in the last few days on billboards in Bucharest has sparked a wave of reactions from the medical community. Specialists charge that the posters contain erroneous or even false information, presented as “debunking myths”, warning that such messages can endanger public health.
The Romanian College of Physicians has conveyed that any communication in the medical field must be assumed and based on scientific evidence, not on unvalidated claims.
“Information in the medical field must be formulated by professionals and supported by scientific evidence. The spread of unvalidated messages, not accepted by the academic community, represents a real danger to the population”, drew the attention of Prof. Dr. Cătălina Poiană, president of the College of Physicians, according to TVR Info.
The Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology calls for a change in legislation
The Romanian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology also had a reaction, which announced that it will request legislative changes regarding such campaigns to the health committees of the Parliament. Specialists point out that the rate of cesarean sections is increasing globally, a trend confirmed by the reports of international professional organizations.
“The caesarean section rate is five times higher in developed countries than in developing countries. It is a reality confirmed by all international reports“, explained Prof. Dr. Mircea Onofriescu:
Who is responsible for the messages displayed?
In the absence of a public commitment, the question remains: who verifies and who is responsible for the information displayed on the boards?
“If the messages are considered advertising, Law 148/2000 applies, which obliges the author to prove the accuracy of the statements. The responsibility lies with both the initiator of the campaign and the operator of the board, even when the author is not identified. If it does not fall under advertising, we enter the area of freedom of expression”says Irina Tomescu, lawyer.
The City Hall of the Capital specified that the authorizations for the placement of the panels are issued by the urban planning departments of the sectors, and the contracts for outdoor advertising are concluded by those companies that own the spaces.
Who is behind the campaign?
The panels were ordered by the “Corporate Transparency” foundation, according to snoop.ro. On its website, in November 2025, an article titled “Caesarean section – hybrid war, the white race becomes the hybrid race”in which the same statements found now on the billboards in Bucharest appear.
Contacted by TVR Info by phone, a representative of the foundation declined to provide statements, but announced that it would issue a press release.
