Participating in Serie A, the football team Fiorentina registered Radu Drăgușin this summer. This transfer is considered “important” by Fabio Grosso, the coach of the Italian team.
Radu Drăgușin had a medical visit with his new team on Tuesday morning, at a clinic in Florence, before signing the contract with Fiorentina. The Italian media previously announced that the peninsular group agreed to pay the amount of 1.5 million euros for the Romanian footballer’s loan until the end of the season, the Italian club also assuming the obligation to transfer him definitively at the end of the 2026/-2027 competitive year, for 17.5 million euros.

Head coach Fabio Grosso stressed that Fiorentina “want to rebuild” after a difficult year and form a “competitive and durable” team with new players in a 4-3-3 system. Fiorentina have only managed to climb out of the relegation zone in recent weeks, so they are keen to turn things around. “I am aware of what has been asked of me. The club wants to build something formidable and I take that into account. We are trying to put in place all the necessary elements to rebuild a competitive and sustainable Fiorentina team,” Grosso said.

Grosso converted a penalty kick with France in 2006
The timing chosen by the Viola group to hold this presentation press conference was remarkable, as it coincided with the 20th anniversary of the moment Grosso converted the decisive penalty in the 2006 World Cup final against France.
Fiorentina completed several transfers in recent days, including that of midfielder Arthur Atta, and Grosso, who took over the team’s technical management this summer, congratulated sports director Fabio Paratici, who arrived a few months ago from Tottenham. “I have to congratulate the director Fabio Paratici. Atta is a very strong player with great potential, I imagine him evolving on the left side of a three-player midfield. I trust the director’s choices. Viery is young and has a lot of potential, I want to meet him and understand his qualities. We know Drăgusin better, he comes from a top club and is an important transfer,” said the former defender, world champion with Squadra Azzurri in 2006.
No Drăgușin is the problem. Tottenham, humiliated at home, with the Romanian forgotten on the bench
Last coach at Sassuolo, Grosso signed a two-year contract with Fiorentina, with the option of a one-year extension. “Obviously, everyone’s dream is to win a trophy. I feel the desire and the ambition to always raise the bar, so that is our goal. We want Fiorentina to play an important role in this championship. If we think about the desired destination, the path may seem clearer, but we also know that, at this moment, we need deeds, not words,” he added.

Radu Drăgușin played for Juventus, Sampdoria, Salernitana and Genoa
Radu Drăgușin made his debut as a professional footballer under the colors of Juventus Torino, on December 2, 2020, during a Champions League match against Dinamo Kyiv. He played a total of 232 minutes in the ‘Old Lady’ shirt, after which he was loaned to Sampdoria, Salernitana and Genoa, before being permanently transferred by the last of these formations, where he played between August 2023 and January 2024.

Aged 24, Drăgușin was acquired by Tottenham in January 2024, for 25 million euros, becoming the most expensive Romanian player. He played a total of 48 matches for the London team, with whom he won the Europa League trophy in 2025.
Fiorentina ranked 15th last season in Serie A. In the course of time, Romanian players such as Adrian Mutu, Ciprian Tătărușanu, Marius Lăcătuș, Bogdan Lobonț, Ianis Hagi played at the viola club. Louis Munteanu was part of the team, but he didn’t get to make his senior debut.
