“At Salina Praid, for example, at the moment we have the technical indicators created so that we can start the works, and the first floors have already been made so that the works can start, so that in the future if another flood like this, like last year’s flood, does not happen again, the water can be diverted.

We have the plan for the works approved and all the stages have already started to be done to start opening the construction site. This year I hope to have the construction site open. We have allocated the necessary money to open the construction site and start the works”, he stated this to Euronews Romania.

The minister added that work is needed to divert water during floods and to ensure access to water for communities in the area.

It adds that locals currently have access to water through a desalination plant, but this is only a temporary solution. The minister stated that works have been approved to supply the communities from the nearest water source, and they must now be carried out.

On Tuesday, PNL MEP Siegfried Mureșan announced that the European Union will allocate 14.3 million euros to Romania for the damages caused by the floods in 2025.

“I have just voted, in the plenary of the European Parliament, a report which provides for the allocation of 14.3 million euros for Romaniamoney coming from the Solidarity Fund of the European Union.

The objective is to compensate part of the costs generated by the floods that hit the south, center and north-east of Romania between May 26 and June 25, 2025. It is about the floods that also strongly affected Salina Praid”, Muresan announced on Facebook.

The measure was approved by the European Parliament with 642 votes “for”, 13 “against” and one abstention.

In May and June 2025, Romania faced severe flooding in the Central, South-Muntenia and North-East regions, after several days of heavy rains. Salina Praid suffered significant damage after the waters of the Corund River eroded part of the river bed, affecting the hydrotechnical infrastructure and causing extensive power outages.
