The days when you can do housework in the enlightened week. When you are not allowed to wash

The enlightened week begins immediately after the Resurrection of the Lord, when the Orthodox Christians enter a special period, in which they are urged to get closer to God and take a break from household affairs.

According to the popular belief, women who see, wash or work in the household during this period can be hit by lightning, a symbol of the divine punishment for non -compliance with the sacredness of these days, writes Click! .Ro.

According to the Orthodox calendar, only Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday are days when it is allowed to work in the house and wash clothes.

The third day of Easter, called the White Tuesday, is an important holiday, marked with a red cross in the calendar. On this day, the housewives are not allowed to work, but they must continue the tradition started on the Sunday of the Resurrection: they are divided, they come and colacs for the soul of the dead, and the visits made by Easter return.

Friday of the Luminated Week is in turn a holiday. On May 10, the Church celebrates the source of the healing, a day dedicated to the Virgin Mary and related to an old miracle – when, at his prayers, he spoke water with healing powers. On this day, the water is sanctified in many places, and the believers go to special jobs.

The last day of the Enlightened Week is Sunday Tomii, when the Holy Apostle Toma is mentioned, known for his doubt.

This day reminds of the biblical episode in which the Apostle Thomas, not being present when Jesus showed them to the other disciples after the Resurrection, said he will not believe until he will see and touch His wounds. Eight days later, Jesus is shown again, and Toma, convinced, speaks: “My Lord and my God!” (John 20, 28).
