Young people in the Z generation rediscover faith: Christianity returns in force in the UK

Christianity increases unexpectedly in popularity, a tendency, especially by young people – especially men, according to The Quiet Revival report made by Bible Society. The most spectacular growth comes from people between the ages of 18 and 24, part of the Z generation: from 4% to 16%. In the case of young men, his number multiplied five times – from 4% to 21%.

The frequency of monthly participation in jobs increased from 8% in 2018 to 12% in 2024, in the UK.

“These data contradict the widespread idea that the Church in England and Wales is in collapse,” says the study of the study, Dr. Rhiannon McAleer. The growth is especially visible among the Roman Catholics and the Pentecostals. In the last six years, the number of those who go to church has increased by over two million people, states independently.co.uk.

Other data support this trend: Bible sales in the UK have increased from 2.69 million pounds in 2019 to over 5 million in 2024. The Youth Bible (Good News Bible-The Youth Edition) has doubled its 2021 sales. The phenomenon is also observed in the US, where Bible sales increased by 22% in a single year.

A study by the Fusion organization, addressed to British students, shows that 50% of respondents are interested in reading the Bible in their spare time – including those who do not declare themselves religious. Nearly 40% of students already have a Bible, and 13% of those without religious affiliation say they are praying weekly.

Moreover, generation Z is now considered “Spiritual generation”. 62% of young people between 18 and 24 “very” or “Quite” Spiritual, compared to only 35% of people over 65. Only 13% of the young generation Z declare themselves, compared to 25% of the X -generation.

“We are witnessing a significant cultural change in faith and religion”, claims Sam Richardson, CEO of the SPCK Christian Publishing House. According to him, people no longer seek answers from religious leaders or atheist voices, but choose to discover faith alone, reading Christian books and the Bible.
