The new fashion among Romanians without free time. “Have you ever done the crazy thing of flying out in the morning and coming back in the evening?”

In the absence of free time, more and more Romanians choose to get rid of stress and disconnect at least for a few hours by opting for the so-called “day-trips”, day trips very popular in the West.

The Romanians quickly caught the idea and try to find nearby destinations, at most 2-3 hours by flight, for which they have the return in the evening hours. Thus, the next day they are ready to go to work again, having benefited from a day off or obtained permission from the job from the bosses.

Among those who have embraced the idea is a young man who, under the protection of anonymity, wrote on one of the Facebook groups for tourists and asked for advice.

Have you ever been crazy about flying out of the country in the morning and returning in the evening? This is how I want to surprise and I need some advice. Which would be the right madness for this day, Milan or Venice? Thank you!”, he asked.

The challenge was immediately accepted by the group members, who came up with ideas and special tips.

Where do Romanians go on “day trips”

“Normally, many times when I had work somewhere and I didn’t want to get involved. Vienna, London especially, we fly at 6 in the morning to London, back around 22-23”was the first response.

“I don’t know if and how flights are available, but for one day Pisa is going. From the airport you can reach the city on foot. The town is small, walkable and very cute”, was another suggestion.

The author of the original post is back with another question: “Thanks for the answers. And if I take my child with me (12 years old), where should I go?”

“London,” was the reply. “Debrecen – Luton London in the morning at 6, in the evening at 9, if I remember correctly, I’m back again. Good luck. Cool experience. I would bet on Milan in this case”, was another piece of advice.

I don’t know which part of the country you are from, but I took the sleeping car from Deva (accommodation and simultaneous transport to Vienna, visiting the city with Hop on Hop off, and in the evening the same way back as when leaving). If you follow there are price offers for train transport“, someone suggested.

There are also risks

There were also netizens who warned of the risks of increasingly frequent plane delays. “I’ve been like this many times, over 7 hours between flights is perfect for a short trip. But we also had the inconvenience of having the plane delayed, then staying in the air for 3 hours because of the fog, and when we landed we lost the return flight. It is best to take Friday afternoon and return on Sunday evening”, was a piece of advice.

“Worth Venice only if landing at Marco Polo Airport”was another opinion.

“Join the “extreme day trips” group, the group is a mix of people from all countries, mostly people from England, but you can get an idea because there they all talk about how long they stayed for their passports, how quickly they get to tourist spots, which bus to take, tricks that if you don’t know, it can be too much of a headache. I, personally, have always taken one night’s accommodation, but I have seen a lot of people who do not take accommodation and get to do extremely many things”, wrote a member of the group.

I did Istanbul, the beautiful city”was another suggestion. “I did it in Rome. We arrived at 7 and were supposed to leave at 7. But the departure was delayed”someone told.

Fashionable among Bucharest and Cluj residents

And because Bucharest and Cluj have the most important airports, with the most traffic and the most destinations, the people of Bucharest and Cluj have more perspectives. This does not mean, however, that those from other localities cannot opt for day trips, even if the offer is somewhat reduced.

“I’ve been going for a year, monthly, Cluj-Bergamo. Just me with the baby. I leave on the 7:00 AM flight and return on the 9:00 PM”, was a new idea.

Cluj – London. And I saw Buckingham, the changing of the guards, that park by Buckingham, Big Ben and the British Museum (part of it), the London Eye” and “Belgium – I left at 5am and came back at 10pm. It was cool, but the second day you’re super tired and I’d say it’s not worth it from that point of view. But… once in a lifetime you need an experience like this”there were two other tips.

Others say that although they have never done it before, they would be tempted to try the experience at least once.

Not on the same day, but on Saturday morning I took off for Bergamo, went to Milan and on Sunday evening I returned home. I also managed to see a match at San Siro. It would also be interesting for a one-day getaway”someone wrote.

I’ve never done that, although I’ve been tempted. I was set back by flight delays, plus the hours you have to be ahead of time at each airport. A 2 hour delay can pretty much screw you up. But I would choose a city where the airport is as close to the center as possible. I would recommend Bergamo because the airport is closer to the city and in half a day you get to see pretty much everything there is to see. Venice, from my point of view, deserves more time, and so does Milan”someone else wrote.

Finally, others do not recommend this at all. Short time and the risk of flights being delayed or even canceled matter to them.

I do not recommend such an adventure, with flight delays, it is not worth the risk. At least one city-break (of 3 days)“, someone wrote. “For one day I wouldn’t beat my head, but at least 2-3 days (Friday-Sunday), yes”another reinforced.
