According to the new austerity measures adopted, the budget workers’ salaries will be frozen in 2025. “Our duty is to fight because you saw that if we fought a year and a half ago in the strikes last summer, something was achieved. It would be nice, we would be happy if we were given these rights without going out into the streets, without damaging the activity of those days. Because you know very well that problems are created if the protests are made during the school or academic year. We are starting from the beginning, that is, something was promised and it was not completed, and we must realize once again that education must be given a priority role”, said Hadăr in an intervention at TVR Info.

Anton Hadăr: “Why should we maintain people’s hope and then cancel everything?

Hadăr explained that although salary increases were achieved in the last two years, they were not enough. “This year and last year, two years in a row, we got the raises we talked about and agreed upon. But look, this process has not been completed and the day after tomorrow they say that the new salary law will be made, which why are we still doing it, if we don’t apply it? Probably that will also start with “it is extended for the next year” and again the train from 2027 is coming, it is extended for two, 2028 etc. It is not right to express ourselves like this. When we make a law, let’s enforce it. We better not do it again. Why should we maintain people’s hope that our salary will be increased and after that, when the little train ordinance comes, to cancel everything, to extend it until the Greek calendars. We need to take these actions to make the politicians find other solutions”.

The union leader also brought up the salary situation of young university assistants, which was not attractive for top graduates until the salary increase of around 3,000 lei net obtained during the May-June 2023 strike: “I appreciated the discussions a year or so ago with Prime Minister Ciucă and immediately with Prime Minister Ciolacu, because then the prime minister changed in Romania, last summer. He was very eager to solve the problem and, for a while, came up with an addition. Otherwise, today, in Romania, a university assistant would have 2,800 – 3,000 lei. We are talking about net amounts. So you figure out how to get a graduate you want in a university, head of graduation, leader of his graduation? How can he come and take 3000 or so lei?”asks the “Alma Mater” boss.
