A thermal water lake that changes color depending on the light, from deep pink to purple, attracts tourists from all over Europe and is promoted as a destination with therapeutic benefits.
In northern Serbia, in the province of Vojvodina, the village of Pačir near the town of Bačka Topola has become one of the most unusual spa destinations in Europe in recent years.
The resort is famous for its artificial thermal lake, whose waters take on spectacular shades of pink, cyclamen and purple in the warm season, turning the place into a real viral visual phenomenon on social networks, according to Blic.
Located about 30 kilometers from Subotica, the spa resort of Pačir (Pačirska banja) attracts visitors from all over the region, but also international tourists, who come both for the unusual appearance of the water and for its supposed therapeutic effects.

A thermal lake with water from 1,400 meters deep
The thermal water comes from a depth of about 1,400 meters, where it reaches temperatures of up to 72°C. After extraction, it cools in the lake to between 30 and 35°C, which makes it suitable for bathing throughout the warm season.

The lake, with an area of about 2,000 square meters, changes its color intensity depending on the light and atmospheric conditions. On sunny summer days, the water takes on an intense shade of pink, while on cloudy days it turns purple.
Specialists explain the phenomenon by the combination of the high content of minerals – sodium, magnesium and potassium – and the microorganisms present in the water, which generate the spectacular chromatic effect.
Water has therapeutic effects
The water in the resort is considered one of the saltiest in the Pannonian Plain, with a concentration of about 21 grams of salt per liter. Due to its rich mineral composition, it is used for spa purposes to treat several ailments.
According to the information promoted by the resort and the reports of visitors, the water is recommended for skin diseases, including psoriasis, vascular diseases, rheumatic diseases and muscle injuries. Also, the vapors resulting from the thermal water would have beneficial effects on the respiratory system, but also in urological and gynecological problems.
Despite the specific smell of iodine and phenol, many tourists say that they quickly get used to it due to the relaxing effect felt after bathing.
A resort with over six centuries of tradition
The town of Pačir is historically attested since the 15th century. Documents from that period show that King Matthew Corvin donated several villages in the area to his mother, Jelisaveta Silađi, which confirms the historical importance of the region.
The resort has a capacity of about 1,000 visitors at a time and includes, in addition to the outdoor lake with landscaped beach and sunbeds, two indoor swimming pools, which allows access even in the cold season.
For tourists who want to spend several days in the area, the accommodation options are varied and relatively affordable. Prices start from around 18 euros per night for simpler apartments and can reach between 30 and 70 euros for more comfortable accommodation units and parking.
