The leader of the PNL, Ilie Bolojan, stated that the party he leads does not exclude the option of early parliamentary elections, but emphasized that this scenario is unlikely in the current political context in Romania.
The statements were made on Wednesday night during a TV show where the Liberal leader spoke about constitutional procedures that could lead to early elections.
“Aanticipatory laws can be made in two situations: when a situation of total deadlock is reached, this is valid for any country, and when, in the sociological analyzes carried out during that period, the result of the vote would be quite different from the parliamentary table that would allow the situation to be unblocked, because, after all, in any country, when the political world can no longer find solutions, if the values are those of democracy, the vote of the citizens is resorted to. PNL does not run away from such a hypothesis, and there are no fools behind a perception that people form. Every man sees the world through his own eyes“, stressed interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, on B1TV, adding that, in democracies, when the political class can no longer find solutions, the final decision rests with the citizens through voting.
Ilie Bolojan also commented on public perceptions in the political space, rejecting the idea that they would be influenced by “boos” or artificial online promotion mechanisms. He argued that each person forms his own opinions and politicians are judged over time by their actions.
“I tried not to lie to people, to tell them the truth,” said Bolojan.
Regarding the scenario of early elections, the PNL leader assessed that this is unlikely in the current political context.
Bolojan recalled that the president can call early elections only under certain strict conditions, and the lack of recent practice in this regard makes the scenario even more unlikely.
In his opinion, there are currently still ongoing procedural stages for the formation of a government, including possible successive nominations, which further reduces the likelihood of early elections.
“It’s a working hypothesis, but probably one of the last,” concluded the liberal leader, emphasizing that at the moment there are no clear signs that Romania would end up in such a scenario.
