Metallica returned to Bucharest on Wednesday evening, where more than 40,000 fans were in ecstasy, at the National Arena, at the band’s fifth concert in Romania. Lars Ulrich promised the Romanians that he and his colleagues will return here.
James Hetfield greeted the audience several times with the message “the Metallica family in Bucharest is alive”, according to News.ro.
One of the surprise moments of the evening was the Romanian interpretation of the song “Who are you, really?” by the band Compact, sung by bassist Robert Trujillo.
“We worked on it right before the show. If you know the lyrics, please sing with us. Are you ready, Kirk?” asked the artist.
“Are you sure you like Metallica? We’ve been doing this for like 45 years, but it feels like 145 years
The concert started at 20.50, after a short rain and after the performances of the bands Knocked Loose and Gojira. The crowd filled the stadium since the afternoon hours, with queues stretching to all sides of the arena.
Hetfield spoke to fans, asking them, “Are you sure you like Metallica? We’ve been doing this for about 45 years, but it feels like 145 years. Before any show we are emotional and we like what we do. We are grateful that you came here to celebrate music with us. Thank you, Bucharest!“.
The artist also spoke to a 15-year-old boy in the audience, to whom he said: “Keep singing, we’ll see you on stage soon.”
The setlist included iconic tracks such as “Creeping Death”, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, “The Unforgiven”, “Fuel”, “Fade to Black”, “Wherever I May Roam”, “Nothing Else Matters”, “Sad But True”, “One”, “Seek & Destroy”, “Master of Puppets” and the finale “Enter Sandman”, described by Hetfield as having a “wall of guitars”.
The band members thanked the audience, Lars Ulrich promising that it wouldn’t be another seven years until the next meeting.
Hetfield ended the evening with the message: “See you soon! Be kind to each other! We love you!”
