Who spends the most on players in the Super League: the squad that dominates away

The financial balance sheets of the Super League teams for 2025 show, without a doubt, which clubs have bet the most on wages.

FCSB clearly stand out in this ranking, spending over 70,000,000 lei on players, a level that underlines the club’s huge ambitions and pressure to perform.

Among the teams that reached the play-offs, the salary differences are impressive. Rapid, for example, allocated approximately 40% less than FCSB, while U Cluj fought for the title with much reduced financial resources, less than half that of the red-blues.

FCSB strengthened its strategy with a high budget

These figures highlight the disproportion between the financial capacity of the clubs and the results on the field. While FCSB supported their strategy with a generous budget, other teams had to rely on efficiency and tight management, which makes it even clearer how decisive the role of investment in wages was for last season’s performances.

1. FCSB – 71,095,499 lei (approximately 14,000,000 euros)

2. Rapid – 51,073,910 (approximately 10,000,000 euros)

3. Craiova University – 47,323,143 (approximately 9,300,000 euros)

4. CFR Cluj – 46,546,407 (approximately 9,100,000 euros)

5. Dinamo – 38,560,040 (approximately 7,500,000 euros)

6. U Cluj – 33,085,464 (approximately 6,500,000 euros).

FCSB, in decline. The champion does not face even in the play-out

After a shameful draw with Metaloglobus (0-0) and a limited success with UTA (1-0), FCSB lost in the third stage of the play-out, 2-3 on the field of FC Botoșani. Mirel Rădoi, installed at the start of the second value group on the red-blue bench, fails to stop the chaos from the champion team.

In the match between FCSB and FC Botoșani, which ended with a score of 3-2 in favor of Botoșani, the goals were scored by Hervin Ongenda, who scored twice (in the 35th and 68th minutes), and by Sebastian Mailat (78) for the hosts, while Darius Olaru and Florin Tănase scored for FCSB, the latter from the penalty, in the 4th and 42nd minutes.
