“Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” a horror film that reimagines the characters from the classic story by turning them into serial killers, has drawn negative reviews since its release, according to the BBC.
The film won the categories: Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Director and Worst Remake. Pooh and Piglet, the characters depicted in the film as bloodthirsty killers, also won the award for worst screen couple. He “missed” those for worst actor or worst actress instead.
The film's director, Rhys Frake-Waterfield, also won the award for worst director. He announced a sequel to the film and other horror films centered on beloved children's characters such as Bambi and Peter Pan, according to the source.
Under US copyright laws, rights to characters can be held for 95 years, after which the characters can be legally interpreted and reused by anyone without permission or cost.
In early 2024, the copyright for Walt Disney's 1928 animated short Steamboat Willie expired. On the same day, the trailer for a film with a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse appeared, the BBC also writes.
