Winter vacation starts on December 20. Students will have 19 consecutive days off, the longest of the school year

Pre-university students and teachers enter winter break on Saturday, December 20. This is the longest holiday of the school year and spans a period of 19 consecutive days.

The Christmas break starts immediately after the end of the second learning module and will end on Wednesday 7 January 2026. Classes will resume on Thursday 8 January with the start of the third learning module.

The holiday period also includes the public holidays of Epiphany (January 6) and Saint John the Baptist (January 7), giving students almost three weeks off.

Structure of the 2025–2026 school year

According to the calendar approved by the Ministry of Education and Research, the remaining course intervals are:

– from Thursday, January 8, 2026, until Friday, February 6, February 13 or February 20, 2026, depending on the decision of the school inspectorates;

– from Monday, February 16, February 23 or March 2, 2026, until Friday, April 3, 2026;

– from Wednesday, April 15, 2026, to Friday, June 19, 2026.

The “Different School” and “Green Week” programs will take place between September 8, 2025 and April 3, 2026, based on the decisions taken by each individual educational unit.

Ski holiday from February 2026

The mobile holiday in February, also known as the “ski holiday”, will take place during one of the following periods, depending on the county:

– February 9–15, 2026: Bistrița-Năsăud, Cluj, Timiș;

– February 16–22, 2026: Bihor, Sălaj, Arad, Hunedoara, Caraș-Severin, Vâlcea, Gorj, Olt, Dolj, Mehedinți, Argeș, Brașov, Dâmbovița, Teleorman, Prahova, Ilfov, Bucharest, Buzău, Ialomița, Călărași, Tulcea, Iași;

– February 23 – March 1, 2026: Satu Mare, Maramureș, Suceava, Botoșani, Alba, Sibiu, Mureș, Harghita, Covasna, Neamț, Bacău, Vrancea, Galați, Vaslui, Brăila, Constanța, Giurgiu.
