A Frenchman settled in Brașov for five years wants to return to his country because of the prices. “Before it was very comfortable”

A Frenchman who has been in Romania for five years mentioned that during a visit to Toulouse he noticed that prices are almost the same as in Romania, but wages in France are twice as high.

A Frenchman settled in Romania, in Brașov, complained on the Reedit platform about the very high prices in Romania. He stated that the salary he earns, approximately 5,000 lei, does not cover his current expenses, including the rent of a room.

“Hello, I’m French and I’ve been living in Romania for almost 5 years. I arrived in the summer of 2021. I have a Romanian salary of about 5,000 lei, which used to be very comfortable to live on, but now, with the increase in taxes and food prices, it has become quite small, especially when you also have to pay the rent of a room.

I was recently in France for the holidays and I realized that the prices in France are now almost the same as in Romania, but the wages are twice as high. For example, in Romania, for two people, a restaurant costs about 150 lei, and in France it is about €30 for an appetizer and main course. What do you think about it? I am seriously considering returning to my country to have a more comfortable life,” wrote the user of the Reddit platform.

The post attracted numerous comments.

“You are the first French I have heard of who emigrated to Romania to get a job and live decently on his salary in Romania. Do you think that people leave Romania for France for nothing?”, one man commented on the Frenchman’s post.

“The local economy in Brasov has gone to hell because of upstart tourists, who every day off take their boilers, stand in line for 8 hours in Valea Prahova, then wait for another 3-4 hours to drive around the center until they find a parking space, then buy a soup for 80 lei and a kurtos for 60 lei, repeat the process with the boilers in the opposite direction, arrive home, and brag that they went in the mountains on the day off,” wrote another commenter.
