The Greek island of Alonissos has been named the most relaxing tourist destination in the world for 2026, according to a study by tourism specialists. It was chosen from a total of over 160 destinations evaluated globally, being appreciated for its peaceful atmosphere, lack of tourist congestion, spectacular natural landscapes and slow pace of life.
Known as one of Greece’s most secluded islands, Alonissos offers an authentic experience far from the mass tourism found on islands like Mykonos or Santorini.
Specialists from Solmar Villas emphasized that the island stands out for its tranquility, pleasant climate, well-preserved nature and a relaxed lifestyle, elements that decisively contributed to its ranking in first place, according to express.
Visitors describe Alonissos as a “hidden gem”, with a unique charm and atmosphere unspoilt by commercial tourism.
A travel blogger who visited the island stated that it is much quieter and more affordable than other popular destinations in Greece, also mentioning lower prices compared to the heavily frequented islands.
“Alonissos is one of those places that you feel. She is quiet, a little wild and completely underrated. Much more relaxed than Mykonos, without crowds of tourists or exorbitant prices”she declared.
According to his testimony, prices are significantly lower than in heavily promoted tourist destinations, noting that an Aperol Spritz cocktail costs 9 euros on average, almost half of Mykonos.
One of the main attractions of the island is the Northern Sporades Marine National Park, a protected area of approximately 2,200 square kilometers, considered the largest marine protected area in Europe. The Mediterranean monk seal, a critically endangered species, also lives here.
Alonissos is also known for its opportunities for exploration, including boat trips to uninhabited islands such as Kyra Panagia, home to a 12th-century monastery.
The Peristera area is also home to Greece’s first underwater museum, known as the “Parthenon of Wrecks”, where thousands of ancient amphorae can be admired at depths of around 30 meters.
The island also offers more than 40 kilometers of hiking trails through pine forests and olive groves, as well as spectacular beaches such as Agios Dimitrios, Kokkinokastro and Chrisi Milia.
The old village of Chora, located on a hill with a panoramic view, completes the tourist landscape with its traditional architecture and authentic atmosphere.
The study shows that Greece dominates the ranking of relaxing destinations, with around 70% of the top ten places occupied by Greek destinations, confirming the country’s popularity for peaceful holidays.
The island does not have an airport, access being possible only by sea, by ferry from Skiathos or Volos, or by connections from Athens or Thessaloniki.
