A popular music artist was sentenced to 17 years and 6 months in prison, in a case concerning sexual assaults on three students, to whom he was teaching singing. The sentence is final.
The Galati Court of Appeal issued the final decision in the case of the popular music performer Aurică Totolici, upholding the sentence of 17 years and 6 months of imprisonment ordered by the trial court. The artist was found guilty of multiple serious crimes against minors.
According to the court’s decision, Totolici was convicted of continuous rape of a minor, ill treatment of the minor, facilitating sexual acts between minors and sexual corruption of minors. In addition to the custodial sentence, the judges ordered the prohibition of the exercise of certain rights.
At the same time, the court ordered the defendant to pay 10,000 euros as moral damages to two of the three minor victims. The request of the third victim’s relatives was rejected as late. Also, an insurance seizure was instituted on his assets until the established amount is covered.
In addition, Aurică Totolici will be registered in the National Registry of Sexual Offenders, and the authorities ordered the collection of biological samples for the introduction of the genetic profile in the National Judicial Genetic Data System.
The investigation was instrumented by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Galati Court, with the support of the police from the Galati IPJ. Initially, the investigations targeted two minors, later being extended to a third victim.
According to the investigators, the victims are three minor boys, students of the popular music classes he taught at home. The events took place during September 2023 – the moment the investigation was launched.
During computer searches, investigators discovered video recordings of child abuse, according to the filing.
Following the medico-legal psychiatric examination, it was established that the defendant had discernment at the time of committing the acts.
Aurică Totolici was employed for 22 years at the “Dănărea de Jos” Cultural Center in Galati and was part of the “Doina Covurluiului” Folk Ensemble, retiring at the end of 2023.
The representatives of the cultural institution stated that they were taken by surprise by the case and that there were no known previous incidents in its activity.
