Actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her role as a seemingly indestructible cheerleader on the show “Heroes” and for playing a country music star in “Nashville”died after being found in cardiac arrest at a home in South Carolina on Sunday, the medical examiner’s office announced. He was 36 years old.
Emergency services responded Sunday afternoon to a 911 call about a “cardiac arrest”in Greenville, the Greenville County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement Monday.
The actress, who lived in California, was found unconscious in her home in South Carolina “where he was staying temporarily”according to the medical examiner’s office. Local police said the address was in an apartment complex.
Paramedics found Panettiere in cardiac arrest and attempted to resuscitate her. The rescuers have “initiated advanced measures to support vital functions”in addition to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but efforts were unsuccessful, according to the medical examiner’s office. Panettiere was pronounced dead about half an hour after the 911 call.
An autopsy performed Monday found no signs of trauma that contributed to the actress’ death, the medical examiner’s office said. The cause of death has not been officially announced.
The 911 call was made by an acquaintance of the actress, Greenville police said, without providing further details about the person.
Panettiere rose to fame in the early 2000s before gradually retreating from the public eye as she struggled with addiction and mental health issues. Recently, she published a volume of memoirs in which she described her difficulties and spoke publicly about the pain caused by the loss of her brother.
“A person had collapsed”
Micah Lee, who lives in the apartment complex where Panettiere died, said his cats started “going crazy” in the early hours of Sunday morning. The man stuck his head out the door and saw several people in the hallway, but quickly returned to his apartment.
“I heard through the door that a person had collapsed”Lee told CNN.
Later, Lee received an email from the building’s manager, asking the tenants not to talk to the media.
“Tenants and community administration are unable to provide official information or comment on the circumstances of this incident”Lee’s email shared with CNN said. “All media inquiries should be directed to the appropriate authorities.”

She was an incredible light and force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her – as well as the millions who watched her on screen.”said the actress’ father, Skip Panettiere, in a message sent through her representative.
