The Plenary of the European Parliament approved with 380 votes for out of 582 MEPs present, the budget priorities for next year coordinated and supported by the chief negotiator of the European legislature for the EU budget, the Romanian MEP Victor Negrescu, according to a press release.
According to the quoted source, the result is an important success for the European Union and Romania in the context in which last year the European Parliament blocked the report, voting against the priorities presented by the former right-wing negotiator of the European legislature.
“By approving the budget priorities of the European Parliament, we unblocked a difficult situation for the European legislature and demonstrated that a Romanian can manage the most difficult situations and generate consensus at European level. With the vote obtained, we practically start direct negotiations with the representatives of the EU Council and the European Commission regarding the amounts to be allocated to each field. Our priorities are clear and are complementary to those that the Romanians have, more precisely the additional financing of agriculture, supporting education and health, infrastructure development, supporting innovation and new technologies or the field of defense”. explained the chief negotiator of the European Parliament, social-democrat MEP Victor Negrescu.
The PSD MEP stated that the requests made by the European Parliament, for the inclusion of funding for full accession to the Schengen area, are of interest to our country.
“In particular, I would emphasize the fact that the requests made by the European Parliament for the inclusion of funding for our country's full accession to the free movement zone, supporting the transfer of pensions and social benefits acquired by Romanians abroad, the creation of a European Plan are of interest to Romania for Education from which to finance continuing education and training, and to prevent school dropout, or the reallocation of unspent European funds to beneficiaries who have demonstrated a high absorption capacity. Last but not least, I am pleased with the support I have received from my colleagues for supplementing health funds in order to create a program to bring state-of-the-art treatments and medical equipment to all Member States to ensure quality and affordable services for all European patients“, stated social-democrat MEP Victor Negrescu.
According to the cited source, an important element of the document approved by the European legislature is related to the transversal dimension of the social criterion in the funding and legislative proposals, which would allow Romania to receive additional support to reduce disparities with other member states.
Romanian MEP Victor Negrescu states that he succeeded “the inclusion of strong references to the support necessary for the development of the rural environment, supporting farmers, but also production in the European Union by promoting strategic autonomy”.
