A 36-year-old Romanian woman was the victim of a sexual attack committed by a 47-year-old man, also of Romanian nationality, in Italy. The aggressor is the husband of the victim’s friend, who was arrested after the woman filed a complaint with the police.
The woman initially presented herself at a hospital’s on-call room, where she stated that she was assaulted after spending the night at the home of some friends.
In the filed complaint, she reported that the man would have taken advantage of her state of confusion and dizziness, caused by the consumption of an alcoholic drink to which benzodiazepines would have been added.
“Something was put in my drink,” the victim told the investigators, according to Stiridiaspora. She also said that her severe drowsiness prevented her from defending herself or calling for help.
After partially regaining consciousness, the woman contacted a friend, who offered support and encouraged her to go to the authorities.
The carabinieri investigation confirmed the victim’s statements. Based on the evidence collected, the 47-year-old man was detained and later arrested.
Investigations revealed that the assailant had a history of domestic violence. His wife was allegedly the victim of repeated physical attacks, which caused her cuts and fractures, but she was afraid to file a complaint.
