According to the cited source, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu “welcomed almost a century of diplomatic relations that our country has with the Sovereign Order of Malta and emphasized the common attachment to the same principles and values in the humanitarian sphere and in support of peace”, expressing appreciation for “the sustained humanitarian activity that the Order carries out in Romania, through assistance offered to several vulnerable categories – the elderly, the sick, disabled children, needy families – but also through the expertise in managing emergency situations such as floods and snowfalls, the Maltese Aid Service from Romania (SAMR) being recognized as a partner by the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) in our country”.
“The mobilization of the Order in Romania during the COVID-19 pandemic was also exemplary, and I would like to thank Ambassador Musneci and his team for the countless gestures of solidarity in support of the vulnerable, as well as the medical staff in our country”emphasized the head of the Executive from Bucharest.
The Prime Minister of Romania also mentioned the involvement of the Order's volunteers in supporting Ukrainian refugees. “There is a need for sustained and predictable support, at all levels, for Ukraine, the victim of a Russian aggression contrary to international law and humanitarian law. We continue to count on the voice of the Sovereign Order of Malta in multilateral forums to stop Russian aggression and support Ukraine. We call on the OSM to continue to speak out in favor of respecting international law and protecting the civilian population.” pointed out Marcel Ciolacu.
At the same time, the prime minister highlighted Romania's openness to carrying out exchanges of experience in the field of humanitarian assistance with the OSM, an area of excellence of the Sovereign Order of Malta, in the context in which our country is in the process of streamlining the policy of international cooperation for development and assistance humanitarian, and addressed to the Grand Chancellor of the Order of Malta, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, the invitation to visit Romania.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is making a working visit to Rome on Wednesday and Thursday, where he will participate in the third joint meeting of the Governments of Romania and Italy, organized 13 years after the previous intergovernmental summit.
