Jidvei, the official wine of Romania and cultural mediator at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival

Jidvei documented from the inside Romania’s presence at the Cannes 2026 Festival, the only Romanian brand that followed in real time a historical presence of Romanian cinema on the most important stage of the world film.

At the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, on the Côte d’Azur, JIDVEI was the official wine of Romania, bringing Feteasca Regală – the variety that conquered both the royal courts and the international grand juries -, and a video diary signed by Amalia Enache (ProTV) and Alexandra Tănăsescu (Cultura la dubă). The journalists documented Romania’s presence at Cannes in real time on the Instagram page @jidveiromania, the latest chapter in a road that Jidvei is traveling alongside Romanian artists and major European cultural events.

Romanian filmmakers brought to Cannes four productions with Romanian participation, in four distinct sections. Cristian Mungiu won the second Palme d’Or in his career with the film Fjord

– an absolute first for Romanian cinema, 19 years apart after the one in 2007. The other three productions were present in separate sections: Diary of a Maid of Radu Jude in Quinzaine des Cinéastes, Atlas of the Universe of Paul Negoescu in Écrans Juniors – the first Romanian youth film ever selected in this section -, and Titanic Ocean in Un Certain Regard, produced by Radu Stancu and Ioana Lascăr.

Culture, our most powerful language

Jidvei was present at Cannes with the video diary “I come to the stories. The Romanian spirit in dialogue with the world“, assuming the role of cultural mediator of Romania’s image. Through this approach, journalists Amalia Enache and Alexandra Tănăsescu captured the effervescence of the festival from the inside, from premieres and interviews with directors, producers, composers and cinematographers, to the unspoken moments between them. The result was a living chronicle dedicated to the people behind the films – those who transformed Romanian cinema into one of the most respected presences on the international stage.

“At Cannes, in the middle of a festival in which films from 141 countries participated, when you say you come from Romania, you see in people’s eyes a respect earned film by film, decade after decade. In the world of cinema, Romania means a voice that the world has learned to listen to. And on the evening when Cristian Mungiu picked up the Palme d’Or for Fjord, the second of his career, this respect turned into a trophy.

I started the diary series “I come to the stories. The Romanian spirit in dialogue with the world” out of the conviction that a Romanian brand has the duty to be present in the moments when its country matters in the world: in cinematography, music, literature and visual arts, on all the cultural scenes where the image of Romania is built. From the Brâncusi retrospective at the Pompidou Center, to the Paris Book Festival and the “Un Week-end à l’Est” Festival – which brought together over 80 Romanian artists -, and until Cannes 2026, Jidvei has was there, bringing the public closer to the creators and ideas that take Romania to the world.” – Alexandra Tînjală, Communication Strategy Consultant, PR and Jidvei Cultural Partnerships

At Cannes, Jidvei brought its emblematic variety, Fetească Regală, to the red carpet through the SPIRIT, Grand Reserve and Owner’s Choice Ana & Maria collections, alongside the Mysterium sparkling wine collection. Jidvei is the largest producer of Fetească Regală in the world – a variety whose legend says that it received its name in honor of King Ferdinand and which continues, today, to confirm the elegance and value of Romanian wines abroad.

Jidvei SPIRIT Fetească Regală obtained the Gold Medal at the London Wine Competition, being the only Romanian white wine awarded with gold at this year’s edition. Each collection of Jidvei wines tells the same story: Transylvania can sit with dignity at the same table as the great wines of the world.
