The interim Minister of Transport and the Army, Radu Miruță, announces the launch of an online form through which travelers can report problems encountered during train journeys. The decision comes after the minister says that he personally tried to contact the CFR call center, but no one answered for 15 minutes.
Radu Miruță states that, in recent weeks, he has received numerous messages from Romanians who complained about the conditions in the trains, claiming non-functional air conditioning, delays, lack of information and inadequate travel conditions.
To check how the system works from the perspective of an ordinary traveller, the minister says he called the CFR call centre.
“To see how the system works and from the perspective of an ordinary traveler, I also called the CFR call center to ask how many reports had been received. For 15 minutes no one answered me, after which I hung up.” wrote Radu Miruță, in a post published on Facebook.
Later, he summoned the director of CFR Călători and the director of CFR Infrastructura to ask for explanations.
“The problem is that people don’t travel on paper”
The minister claims that the situation presented in official reports differs from the actual experience of passengers.
“I then called the director of CFR Călători and the director of CFR Infrastructure. Typical: on paper we are almost fine. The problem is that people do not travel on paper”, Miruta sent.
He says that he wants to obtain as faithful a picture as possible of the problems in rail transport and warns that the measures provided for by law will be applied where irregularities are found.
“I want us to see the reality exactly as it is and apply the law where we find irregularities, including penalties if there are cases where maintenance is paid that, in practice, is not done,” stated the minister.
Online form for travelers’ complaints
Radu Miruță announced that, starting from Monday, July 6, an online form is available through which anyone who has encountered problems during a train journey can quickly submit a report.
According to the minister, for at least two weeks, information will be collected from the entire country, based on which the biggest problems and the necessary measures to remedy them will be identified.
“I want us to have a picture based on the facts of the travelers, not on the reports of the bosses,” pointed out Radu Miruță.
The Minister encourages all those who use rail transport and experience difficulties to complete the notification form, so that the authorities can assess the situation on the ground and intervene where necessary.
