Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu reaffirmed the support of Romania for multilateralism to the UN, condemning Russia’s aggression on Ukraine and asking for an immediate armistice in Gaza.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, held on Sunday the intervention of Romania in the plenary of the General Assembly of the United Nations, emphasizing the firm commitment of the country for multilateralism and strengthening the international order based on norms, writes Mediafax.
“Our presence here, representing our countries together in the same room, is part of the same conversation and represents in itself a deep expression of our commitment for multilateralism,” said the minister. Țoiu added that Romania “He firmly supports the United Nations, marking 80 years since its creation and 70 years since our country’s accession.”
The minister warned on the tense international context: “We live unprecedented troubled times in history. People say we want to prevent war, but the war is very close to us. People say we want to live under the reign of the international law, but the world is impassive to its repeated violations. ”
Țoiu condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, emphasizing that “Ukraine continues to need our support and solidarity. According to full compliance with the UN Charter, Ukraine has the right to protect its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and has our support to do so. “
As for the Middle East, the minister requested “An immediate armistice in Gaza, unconditional release of all hostages and adequate humanitarian assistance”, emphasizing that “Maintaining a political horizon for implementing the solution of the two states remains essential for a fair, comprehensive and sustainable peace. ”
Regarding the UN reform, Oana Țoiu stressed that “The Security Council must make progress in transparency, working and representative methods, in order to become more efficient and strengthen its credibility ” and pleaded for “the rapid implementation of the UN80 initiative for efficiency and elimination of duplications ”.
“We cannot dilute existing commitments, We cannot afford to accept the regress. We must ensure adequate, predictable and sustainable financing for human rights ”, said the minister.
