The Minister of Health thanked those who made possible, on Saturday, December 27, the humanitarian mission to transfer to Brussels two patients with serious burns, victims of the explosion in Onești, Bacău county. Alexandru Rogobete stated that “in Romania, the construction of the two centers for severe burns is over 90% completed”.
“The two patients with severe burns, with more than 60% of the body surface, following the explosion in Onești, Bacău County, were transferred safely to a hospital in Belgium, where they can benefit from high-level specialized treatment. I thank the Romanian Air Force, the Department for Emergency Situations and all the professionals involved for the impeccable coordination of this complex transfer, carried out at a critical time. I also thank Mrs. Monica Althamer for her support and for facilitating patient access to Charleroi University Hospital“, Alexandru Rogobete sent on Sunday, according to a press release from the Ministry of Health.
We remind you that a C-27 J Spartan aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, configured for medical missions, took off on Saturday, from the 90th Air Transport Base in Otopeni, at the request of the Department for Emergency Situations, to transport two burn patients to Brussels.
The mission took place on the route Otopeni – Bacău – Brussels.
“These situations put a major strain on the medical system”
In the press release on Sunday, the Minister of Health explained that, in parallel, in recent days, an increased number of patients with severe burns has been registered at the national level “generated by violence, self-aggression, intentional arsons, the use of improvised installations, but also by electrocutions resulting from negligence”.
“These situations put a major pressure on the medical system and cause deep suffering to patients and their families. Unfortunately, unlike many other countries, Romania has a very large number of patients with severe burns, exceeding the European Union average. This reality shows how necessary the awareness of individual and collective responsibility is.”
“The construction of the two centers for severe burns is more than 90% complete”
Alexandru Rogobete also specified that “in Romania, construction the two centers for severe burns is over 90% completed in Timișoara and Târgu Mureș”:
“Starting next year, patients with severe burns will be able to be treated here, at home, in modern and safe conditions. But accountability, prevention and avoidance of these situations remain vital, so that the system can cope with the large number of patients and protect lives”.
