Asked what they think about reducing the president's term to 4 years, as well as the term of parliament and mayors, 82% of respondents say it's a good idea, 15.3% say it's a bad idea, and 2.7% don't know or don't answer.

48.5% of Romanians are of the opinion that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be part of the same political camp so that there are no more arguments and instability. 49.4% think it is better for the president and prime minister to be from different political camps to check each other, even at the risk of quarrels and instability. 2.1% of survey participants do not know or do not answer this question.

I am of the opinion that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be part of the same political camp, especially: PSD-PNL and ADU voters, young people under 30, people with primary or high school education, the inactive potentially active or the collars grey, people with a lower income, small urban or rural residents. He believes that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be from different political camps in order to control each other especially: people with higher education, white collar workers, residents of the big city and Bucharest“, show the authors of the study.

“Romanians want a synchronization of the mandates of the president, the parliament and the mayors, probably to simplify the electoral processes. The instability and political crises generated after the amendment of the Constitution of 2003 which established a 5-year term of office for the president causing difficult cohabitations between presidents of a certain political orientation and parliamentary majorities of a different political color are perceived as problems only by a part of the population. Thus, half of Romanians are of the opinion that it is better for the president and the prime minister to be part of the same political camp so that there are no more arguments and instability, while the other half of the population is of the opinion that it is better for the president and the Prime Minister to be from different political camps to check each other, even at the risk of quarrels and instability”, explains Remus Ștefureac, director of INSCOP.
