Several Romanians accuse the fact that tourists are tricked in Greece, and tavern owners charge their bills with products they did not order. Such occurrences would, it seems, be more and more frequent.

Many tourists complain that their dream vacation turned into a fiasco due to unforeseen problems. Others, somewhat more fortunate, say that their long-dreamed vacation was overshadowed by less pleasant, but also less dramatic events.
A Romanian reported the unpleasant incident he experienced in a Greek restaurant in Halkidiki. The man told on a Facebook group dedicated to Romanians who spend their holidays in Greece how he had to pay for products he had not ordered.
“Watch out for this tavern! Will upload bill. They put bread on the receipt – 7 portions for 1.6 euros/portion, although we only asked for one portion. Take advantage of the fact that we do not understand the Greek alphabet”the man wrote, and the post accompanied it with a picture of the restaurant.
His post went viral, and many other Romanians say they had similarly unpleasant experiences. And some claim they’ve done the exact same thing and found themselves paying bills with food they didn’t ask for.
“What a novelty. Any note in the season needs attention,” someone wrote. “That’s how the Greeks are, grabbers, thieves, thieves. I’ve had it too, that’s why I don’t need their Greece anymore. Let whoever wants to go”someone else wrote.
“We experienced this at two restaurants”
“This happened to us at two restaurants, one in Afytos and one in Nea Iraklea. From the start, they brought us water at the table and bread without ordering, while we had pasta or other things that didn’t require bread and we didn’t even eat it. At the end, after I asked for the bill, they came with a dessert plate (some watermelon triangles, some cheesecake squares and 3 mini ice creams on a stick for 7 people). I suspected that since we didn’t order it would be from the house and in the end we woke up with an extra 25 euros on the bill – 1.5 euros/person for bread, 10 euros for the dessert plate and 5 euros for water”, he confirmed another. “Same in Nea Kalikratia“, someone proved him right.
Others apologized to them, and one lady expressed that it was probably an unintentional mistake. “Or beware that the staff are new hires and make a lot of mistakes until they learn and get rid of the stress of being a newbieshe said. “Let them also make mistakes in favor of the client”, another lady contradicted her.
“Straight on the table. Almost everywhere they come with unordered bread and water”, someone posted a suggestive photo.
“In Halkidiki I ate at an expensive restaurant and didn’t get anything from the house, but they make you pay for bread/water even if you don’t touch it. And for sure if there’s any left, give it to others too, because our bread was a bit dry. In Thassos I have never met such cev, and I even received dessert from them!”, was another confirmation.
“They were fair enough”
But there were other opinions. “We didn’t necessarily eat at this tavern, (we left 2 days ago), but we weren’t charged at any tavern! They were fair enough. Yes…we have to be careful what we ask for,” wrote a lady.
Others complained of other problems. “They didn’t accept us because we didn’t want to eat the catch of the day, we wanted something else. I had eaten the catch a few days before at their place. But they didn’t charge the note even though it was a steep price. Very tasty food”, was another opinion.
