The students ask for explanations on the Ordinance-trenuleț. “What do we do if we have to travel to school on several trains?”

The National Alliance of Student Organizations in Romania (ANOSR) requested a meeting with the representatives of the Ministry of Transport as well as with those of the Railway Reform Authority in order to obtain clarifications regarding the application of the Train Ordinance, which cut their ticket discounts and train tickets.

The students have reported some major irregularities and demand their urgent solution. In this way, young people continue their efforts to benefit from a 90% reduced fare for all railway routes, as well as free of charge in certain situations.

The student organization stated in a statement that there are various situations that the Government did not take into account when adopting the Emergency Ordinance and for which no clarifications were provided.

For example, the regime that foreign students and Romanian students from everywhere will benefit from is not established, considering the fact that for some of them their domicile is abroad. There are also uncertainties regarding students for whom the most accessible route does not fall between the town where the university center is located and the town of residence, even if they have a functioning railway station or not. Likewise, the situation of young people who have to travel with several railway operators to cover the route between their home town and the town where the educational institution they attend is not regulated. Last but not least, there are also cases where the transport IDs did not show the locality where the university where the young people study is located.

Students still cannot buy their train tickets online

Also, ANOSR requests the railway transport operators to expedite the steps regarding the re-implementation of the possibility for students to purchase tickets in online format. “The limitation of this possibility represents a considerable setback in terms of the accessibility of this process”, the statement also states.

“Part of the railway transport operators, including CFR Călători, have, until this moment, communicated in the public space regarding the operationalization of the measures that limit the application of the 90% discount to domestic rail transport to all categories of class a trains 2nd. The notices mention that students can no longer purchase tickets online, but exclusively physically, based on student ID cards for discount/free transport, on which the location of the educational institution is highlighted together with the identity document”, it is stated in communicated.

The students launched in the public space a petition signed by over 45,000 people asking the Government to remove the proposed changes.
