Călin Georgescu sent a public message on the occasion of Pentecost, but he also reacted to the incident in Galați on Friday, May 29, where a drone of Russian origin crashed over a block of flats, causing injuries, evacuations and national and international reactions. The former presidential candidate spoke about how such moments should be handled.
While at the Church of the Holy Martyr Varvara in Buftea, Georgescu was asked about the situation created after the incident in Galați and how such moments should be managed.
In his reply, he emphasized spiritual values and the need for peace.
“A true leader of the country, a leader of the nation, listens to God, not to people. And he then understands that the peacemaker is great. Because the peace we all need, this whole world is small, because God is great, peace only comes when you are no longer controlled by any passion”. declared Georgescu.
He argued that peace is the foundation of stability and harmonious coexistence.
“So I say what I have always said: for me, the top priority is peace in the country, peace in the region and beyond. Without that we cannot exist,” he stated.
The statements come after the incident in Galați
Călin Georgescu’s message was sent two days after the incident occurred on the night of May 29, when a Geran-2 type drone crashed over a block of flats in Galați.
The explosion caused a fire in an apartment located on the 10th floor of the building, and approximately 70 people were evacuated or self-evacuated. Two people were injured and taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, the Romanian authorities announced that the investigation is being coordinated by the General Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ministry of National Defense specified that the drone was of Russian origin and that the entire explosive charge detonated upon impact.
Georgescu: appeal to faith and humility
In his Pentecost message, Călin Georgescu also spoke about the role of faith in society, stating that Romania “he stands by prayer.”
“Ardent prayer makes every day, in fact, a day of Pentecost. And then we will understand that dignity begins with humility. Only through humility can we rise as people and as a people.” he said.
Georgescu also invoked several historical figures of Romania, including Ștefan cel Mare, Neagoe Basarab, Mihai Viteazul and Constantin Brâncoveanu, whom he said represented models of faith and devotion.
“We kneel before God, confessing that we are totally dependent on Him. Totally,” Călin Georgescu concluded.
