The Marcescens Serratia is a worldwide bacterium, present in water, soil, plants and on wet surfaces, but which is more often found in the hospital environment, especially in the intensive care sections.
Patients subjected to invasive procedures – intubation, dialysis, use of catheters – are the most vulnerable when entering the bacterium in the body.
According to specialists, infections with the Marcecens Serracy can be severe, especially in people with low immunity, chronic diseases or long -term hospitalizations.
Bacteria can cause pneumonia, urinary tract infections, eye infections, wounds or abdominal, meningitis, osteomyelitis, endocarditis and septicemia. The diagnosis is established by laboratory analysis, and the treatment involves the administration of antibiotics, but the microbe can develop resistance, which makes infections harder to treat.
The Ministry of Health has stated that, based on the medical data currently available, a direct connection between the infection with the Marcecens Service, the other pathologies or comorbidities and the reported deaths can not be established. The conclusions are to be formulated by experts in legal medicine.
“From the medical data existing at the moment, made available to the Ministry of Health, we cannot achieve a direct medical connection, between the infections associated with the medical assistance, the other pathologies, the comorbidities of the patients and the death. transmitted the Ministry of Health.
